Mardi Gras

Give it up for Lent!

So no posting for over a month. Well, I've been plagued and obsessed with computer problems. The old reliable G4 Cube decided to fry another video card, so I tried to hot rod it, failed (mostly - it's not a cool new case where you can see the glowing bits inside), got another plain old video card from e-bay, succeeded. That took longer than it should have - why? I can't follow simple directions.
Then, I got a wild ESR hair up my ass at the same I craved the Tivo, as my VCR was slipping past the sell-by date. So, MythTV was the solution. Got onto New Egg , ordered me up a mess of stuff wrapped in styrofoam and downloaded me a truckload of distros . Of course, that was weeks ago.. It took me longer than it should have - why? I can't follow simple directions. Although, cut me a break, it had been about five years since I messed with Linux, and these are, for some people, not very simple.
But! It's alive, dammit! ...mostly. And I did it all without posting a single question on a bulletin board. I was about 1/2 through my project when the NYT had an article on MythTV, as did Slasdot, which flooded the boards and lists with unanswered silly questions.
But it is done, and I just checked the status on my Battlestar Galactica recording remotely from my cube. Some things you just have to figure out yourself.
