Two books by Barthelme - "Snow White" and "The Dead Father"

Pomo yuks

Coming to Donald Barthelme from basically nowhere, I was a bit confused reading "Snow White." I had started to read it several times earlier, but had given up after about a third of the way through. I stuck it out this time, and it paid off. It was a gas, but I'm not sure what it all meant. To a similar degree, "The Dead Father," although it is a bit more straight forward in its style and narrative, and darker in tone and subject matter. What kept me reading through to the end of "Snow White" was the fact it was funny. What kept me reading to the end of "The Dead Father" was being stuck in a Mini dealer's waiting room while I waited for my car to be serviced.
Time to move back to non-fiction for a while - picked up "Looking for History: Dispatches from Latin America" by Alma Guillermoprieto
