Round Robin Hood's Barn

First the chill and then the stupor, then the letting go.

According to Master Hayden's rules, the track listings with brief comments:

1) If you were making a soundtrack for your life so far ñ this song would have to be on it.
"Come Play With Me" - Wedding Present. Probably all of the Seamonsters album, but "it's something she wrote just to ruin my day. Now you understand?" followed up with the crunchy manic audacity of "COME PLAY WITH ME!" Funky morose sweetness. Plus the drums produced the way Albini can on a real good day.

2) A song from one of the CDs currently in your 1) car stereo 2) portable CD player 3) stereo.
"Como Ves" - Control Machete featuring Anita Tijoux "What you see see, you believe believe..." This summer my CD envelope was stuffed with all sorts of Mexican rock, roll, hip and/or hop.

3) A song from the first album, cassette, or CD (whichever was first or the oldest that you still have access to) that you purchased for yourself.
"Break on Through" - The Doors I bought it cause it had a Weill/Brecht number on it, which SUCKED! (Gimme Lotte Lenya). But this rocks. Rocks well, in a old school bass-less fashion. And it is better than Grand Funk Railroad or the Guess Who.

4) A song without a word in its title. (i.e. numbers or acronyms)
DC-10 - Liliput/Kleenex Swiss misses kicking ass and meting out avionic justice old testament style.

5) A song from the year you were born (weíll take written, recorded, or released)
"Fingertips (Pt 2)" - Little Stevie Wonder It was a number one, also. (Though, good taste and the year 1963 will prevent me from adding "...with a BULLET!")

6) A song with the name of someone in this music swap in it
"Andy" - Neko Case w/Jon Rauhouse from their tour only CD. Perfect example of a song that ends when it's done.

7) A song in a language other than English.
"Las Flores" - Cafe Tacuba From an MTV Unplugged, crazy pop that gallops until the fiddle breaks and the folk harmonies take over. These cats rock and you should buy every recording they ever made.

8) A song with a city or state/province name (countries donít count)
"Tennessee Waltz" - Sally Timms 'nuff said.

9) Say you're planning a multi-day road trip, this song could go on every mix you make for the trip.
"Only You and Your Ghost Will Know" - Mekons Sing-a-long chorus sung by the full-on Mekon's choir. "Was there a place to leave or a place to go? A mouth to kiss or a hand to hold? ...Only you and your ghost will know." That's enough to get you from the flat spot that runs from Brady to Odessa every time.

10) A song by a local artist.
"Horsies" - The Horsies Late lamented flowering of the transworld dorky Austin music explosion w/lesbians that makes me think of Pepsi Clear and the Outhouse. With Bill Anderson, Brian Bingamon, and all sorts of crafty veterans.

11) A song with a color in the title
"Little Girl Blue" - Nina Simone Also, the baddest setting of a Christmas carol. (Was going to be "Hot Pink Hot Sex" - Peaches/Gonzales, but you know, I got tender sensibilities.)

12) It ís5am, your alarm is going off, this song would still make you smile.
"Sweet Thing" - Van Morrison I'm not a Van Morrison fan, necessarily, but I am an Astral Weeks fan. The bass is enough to get the hearting beating, and the random images Van tosses out can mean whatever you want, so long as it's good.

13) Either a cover you thought was an original or an original you thought was a cover
"Lovesick Blues" - Emmett Miller Well, not quite according to the rules. I thought Hank Williams' was the original, but everyone's heard that.

14) A song that is about a specific movie or book or at least mentions a specific movie or book. (identify which one if it is not mentioned by name)
Flitcraft - Mekons From the Wells Park acoustic show. Mr. Langford gives the details - "gone like a fist when you open your hand."

15) WILDCARD
Andante from Robert Schumann's Piano Quintet performed by La Gaia Scienza - From a very attractively packaged CD. Melody like no other.

16) A song that has reached number one on a Billboard chart
"Kiss" - Prince (Pop & R&B 1986) Had a crush on both Wendy and Lisa. So sue me.

17) Genre-buster: this song doesn't fit any genre as far as youíre concerned.
"Hoer' ich das Liedchen klingen" - R. Schuman/U. Caine Jazz guy doing Schumann with a woman talking about "love's sticky milk." What would you call it? O.k., so technically, the performance doesn't fit the genre. But I dig it.

18) I hate the artist, but I love the song.
"Live and Let Die" - Gun 'n Roses It works on so many levels, cause I hate Wings too.

19) Wha? If anyone can tell me what this song is about, give me a call. (no fair usingMcArthurPark)
"Sweet Water Pools" - Screaming Blue Messiahs Actually, about 87% of the SBM output could fit in this category. One of the loudest trios ever.

20) Guilty Pleasure or I am embarrassed that I like it song.
"Go Your Own Way" - Fleetwood Mac All the suddenly, I'm the pimply nerdy fat boy in high school. No, wait. I hate this fucking song. What am I, nuts?

21) TV theme song
"Dan Dare" - The Wedding Present I once told my best friend that I wanted this played at my funeral. Kinda still do.

22) An unrequited love song
"Cryin'" - Roy Orbison

23) Stump the band.
Let me know if you're stumped.
