Slave freed in clutch maneuver
So I listened to Nabucco
It wasn't as difficult as I feared, but just
as hard as I figured. I spent some quality time under the Alfa today, giving
the clutch slave cylinder a liberal dousing of Liquid Wrench. I jostled and
banged it, then some tornsional force from a giant crescent wrench. I
despaired, sat back and had a soda. I had visions in my head of taking such an
obviously gouged vehicle to a mechanic: "I was just too stupid to get it out,
sir. Don't shoot me." As has been said, all it took was one good jerk. So
finally I got it rotating. Then I got it twisting and moving and finally busted
free. And, no, there wasn't any snap ring on the bleed screw side, amazingly
enough, nor was there the coating of JB Weld I feared. Just rust. Zipped over
to Van's for a snap ring, and the new cylinder slid in like no one's business.
Buttoned it up, and did some preliminary bleeding with the able assistance of by
lovely wife. I let the bubbles settle and give it another round tomorrow. In
the meantime, nothing says "r&r of Alfa slave cylinder"
like "Va
pensiero" from Verdi's Nabucco.
