Anything But Prettier, Men from Nantucket at the Vibe
10/15/04
Good sound, equipment failure,
rhinestone cowboys
Anything But Prettier played another in their
series of increasingly tight sets last night, opening at the ungodly hour of
8:30 pm. A series of guest musicians/agent provocateurs added to their brief 40
minute set, include an additional guitar for their cover of a Poison song. I
don't know much from Poison, but had ears in the 80s so could recognize but not
sing along. A woman submitted her mammaries to young drummer Josh for his
approval.
Last on the bill was The Men from
Nantucket, which featured a 17-foot tall Puerto Rican front man, rambling
through a set of original and well chosen covers in a straight forward rock
and/or roll method. Covers included "The Gambler," "(What's So Funny) 'bout
Peace Love and Understanding," and an chaotic medley of "Rhinestone
Cowboy"/"Rockin' in the Free World" to close out the night. As the set
dissolved into a soup of drunkosity, the lead man used a folding chair and the
bassist's boots as tools to play his flag bedecked guitar. Fun, but from what I
understand, their last show. Glad I saw at least that much of it.
