Bright Lights Society, Iron Star Hall, Bertam, TX - May 29, 2005

Perfect setting for a cool band

I was fortunate to be able to hear the Bright Lights Society perform in the remanufactured old west grandeur of the Iron Star Hall in Bertram, Texas. The BLS come well equipped with a solid and aware rhythm section, just the right amount of sax backing the one/two punch of Elizabeth McQueen's luscious vocals and Lauren Gurgiolo's amazing guitar work (which thoroughly impressed some of the guitar players in the audience whose technical opinions I trust). I don't think I was alone in thinking this was an exceptional combination of event and hall. The Iron Star has spent previous lifetimes as a general store and tile warehouse, but now retains its movie star attire, donned for the film "The Newton Boys." Of course, I may be biased, cause it was my wedding.
