SXSW 2005 Sunday

Jester, Dung, Eggs, Brownouts & Pong

Sunday may not have had the energy and crowds of Friday or Saturday, but it was a lot more fun.
Too many times have I missed DJ Jester, (especially earlier in the week when playing with Lederhosen Lucil). So we headed down to Emo's for an 8 o'clock disk spinning. Pretty fantastic to the master at work. And he dances like I do.

And, with Julie and Laura's help, I ended up with an "I F(heart) DJ Jester! The Filipino Fist" whoopee cushion. The only disappointment was the brevity of the set. Next up at Emo's Jr. was, I believe, Best Fwends, who pulled up a trash can in case they had to puke during their performance. That sort of caveat moves an audience to a bit of uneasiness, as the Fwends hopped around the crowd, sweating and shouting over high decibel computer generated skronk.
We wandered downstairs to see half of the Dung Beatles set which was about all that was needed. Old school Beatles meets excreta. Hmm..

We stuck around for the Eggmen, more Beatlemaniacs, then headed to the Flamingo Cantina to see Pong. Luckily, we showed up early, and heard the tight funk sound of Brownout , a Grupo Fantasma side project. The house bumped, even the Pong fans.

Then, the sonic spectacle of Pong. Lights, fog, bass guitar strap malfunctions, and a couple of new songs.
