Fine Fifteen, Darling New Neighbors, doo-wop & Sheboygan; Carousel,
Saturday, April 10
It was fun.
Headed out to the festive beer & set-up
dealership just over the freeway, The Carousel Lounge, last Saturday. A full
bill, including an initial set by the female vocal duo Fine Fifteen, followed by
The Darling New Neighbors. The DNN's set picked up steam as it chugged
unmercifully toward the whomp heavy sweaty rendition of "Emotional Rescue."
After a costume stage, hillbilly chanteuse
E. Jackson orchestrated her original nameless (to me, at least) doo-wop number,
as can be heard by clicking this word - featuring various luminaries and guest
celebrities to enhance her glamour. (Including JB Wood on bass). It was a
sight to behold, on a smaller scale than "Big Dreamer" but groovy nonetheless.
The back-up singers were righteous! Julie
and I had a difference of opinion on the way back. She said that, yes, this
style was doo-wop, and I said, no, twasn't, was more like "girl group" - a
different thing altogether.
