Casting Couch at the Hole in the Wall 10/5/2004

a sound evolves - with pictures

Not that I have any reason to be biased (I am sleeping with the bass player), but it is interesting to hear the Casting Couch sound evolve. I like it.
The crowd of 20 or so folks camped out at Hole in the Wall last night to hear the Couch's progress (I was lucky to be seated between Darling Neighbor Elizabeth and Firebrand Elizabeth - so there was a substantial and verifiable cool Elizabeth quotient).
Despite some sound issues - heck, there were about 40,000 mics, and instruments that cause mic'ing issues (clarinet, tuba, euphonium, glockenspiel, accordion) - they played their full set, including a nice piano/euphonium piece after their break, a intelligent rendition of "Different Drum" which, amazingly, did not get stuck in my head the next day. The first song "Strawberry" was, though. John whipped up on his guitar, if you listened closely, because, as Lynn noted from stage, he was being "out rocked by an accordion." But the apocalyptic euphonium/guitar breakdown made 11:30 feel like closing time. A good thing.
