SXSW 2005 - Friday

EXTRA - ELECTRIC MEAT EXCLUSIVE PICS AND SOUNDS! JUDAS PURVS!

As I grow older, I've been finding that the "rock and roll all night" and "party every day" has become an either/or proposition. On Friday, it was the Party Every Day turn.
Friday was a good day for it, considering the ideal weather. So we headed to the Bloodshot/Yarddog picnic shortly after noon. First, a distinct improvement over the beer from last year - Abita and Real Brewing sponsored.
Devil in the Woodpile played their old school kazoo powered jams. Then Jon Langford and the Sexy rocked out, overwhelming the Yarddog's sound system. I'm not sure who the Sexy are, other than that they were from Seattle. More Sexy - But the real surprise of the afternoon was the an all electric Meat Purveyor performance! Pete on his G&L And a DRUMMER of all things! And they sounded good - like Poisoned Meat 13 or sumfin. If you need evidence that the Meat Purveyors are really a punk band that plays mostly bluegrass instruments, check out "Hangman" Then a drift down Congress, meeting a very young man, some noodles, Dale Watson & Elizabeth McQueen. Then, over to the Red Eye Fly for Sally Timms. An outstanding set, with Jon Langford playing on "Corporal Chalkie" and "Now We Have the Bomb" - with some of the best audience participation dancing in a long while.
